So hard to let go

I hope you've enjoyed your holidays. I've taken some time off and it feels wonderful. When Stampin'up releases the retiring list of products from a catalogue, I always cringe my teeth… I have trouble letting go of my retired favorites… I use to keep them anyway but now I only keep a selected few… Being a demonstrator for over 10 years has made my stash of SU products pretty big. If I kept all my stampin products, I would need to upgrade the size of my craft room… Us demonstrators have great perks, like free goodies, bonus and a discount on our products, hence the reason I have a great and big supply of goodness… You might want to check in during the Sale-a-bration period that starts on January 4th, the starter kit has a great deal going down…  There has never been a better time to join either for the discount or to start your own business.

The holiday catalogue is coming to an end on January 3rd, just like the holiday are almost over.  I've shifted from making holiday projects, to winter projects… I'm loving the Mountain Adventure stamp set… This is one stamp set that I'm keeping in my retired stash… Skiing is a big part of our family activities and I know this set will be useful for a very long time.  I've design this scrapbook page below for my January scrapbook club, if you would like to attend, I'm hosting on January 11th.  If you live too far then take advantage of my kit to go.  The kit to go includes the Mountain Adventure stamp set.  You have until January 3rd to sign up.

I wanted to include so many pictures… There wasn't enough space for my journaling.  To resolve this issue, I added flip pockets to incorporate my journaling. The linen thread kept the pockets closed.  Another idea would be to use magnets…

The embellishments from the holiday catalogue were pretty amazing as well.  I love glittery things.  The tins of tags project kit includes these star and circle sequins.  I added them using the Fine tip glue pen.  I also added white mica flakes to my mountains.

Here is a view of the inside of my pockets.  I stamped the inside and colored the stamp images with my new watercolor crayons that are coming in the new occasion catalogue.  This is one of the perks of being a demonstrator, we can pre order the new goodies from the next catalogue. If you don't have the new crayons, you can use the ink off of your ink pads.  I just press my ink pad down so the ink transfers to the inside of the lid.

On my previous post, I talked about how much I love the large letters framelits. This time I embossed my letters with softly falling textured impression embossing folder.  Adding texture to the letters made the title pop out.  I also added more white mica flakes…

Tip: When I want to display a scrapbook page, I get a 12×12 canvas at my local craft store and mount the page to it.  It's perfect for wall art or even to display on a shelf.  This page will make it to my scrapbook wall for sure… The color combo is perfect for my display area.

Green Christmas, not!

I guess we won't be getting a green Christmas like last year… we are expecting 10-15 cm of snow starting late this evening. I'm hoping I don't need to commute tomorrow and can work from the closest office.  I took the opportunity today to stay in my pjs and work on a couple of projects.  It felt so good to just stay home.  I'm late with my Christmas decorations and Christmas shopping.  I think this year it will be mostly online shopping!   I've been sick since mid October and finally after 10 days of antibiotics, I'm feeling like myself again.  I don't like to take antibiotics but obviously, I needed it!  Therefore, I'm much more productive since my health is improving.  My Holiday card stash is coming along.  If you would like a holiday card from me, send me your mailing address this week. I'd love to finalize my to do card list.

Below you will find a card loaded with embellishments.  I just felt like going over the top.  It's one of those cards that nothing felt right but in the end fell together.  Garden green is not one of my go to colors normally but I am trying really hard to go out of my comfort zone.

My embellishments included:

– warmth & cheer designer washi tape #141994

– mica flakes trio pack #141998, I used the white flakes and adhered them with the fine tip glue pen #138309

– pearl basic jewels #119247

– very vanilla 1/2" lace trim #141672

-warmth & cheer designer series paper stack #141991

Some of these products are on sale right now.  Click the link below with all the sales or HERE.

The other products used for this card will be at the bottom of this post.

Here are a couple of additional tips:

I used the paper piercing tool #126189 to make holes around my oval very vanilla cardstock.

I also stamped once on a scrap piece of cardstock the tree before stamping to the oval cardstock so it would be faded.

Don't forget to sign up for Jo-Ann and I's occasion event planned for February, early bird pricing ends on December 18th.  We are more than half full but still have room for you.  Jo-Ann has created a fabulous certificate and if you prefer asking your family or friends a voucher for our event for Christmas, the option is available to you.  See voucher below.

Mixed Matched stockings

Do you ever find yourself with mixed matched stockings?  We seem to have an entire bag of them at home… Our cleaning lady has been trying to sort them out once in a while…  She's a blessing in our home, don't know what we would do without her with our busy schedule.   I had to tell her that Jordan has stockings that are purposely purchased mixed matched.  It's seems to be the pre teenager style!   In the holiday catalogue, the Hang your stocking stamp set and Christmas stockings thinlits dies is the perfect bundle to create mixed matched stockings!  I designed this card for our fundraiser and was so excited to see all the different stockings that could be created! Below here is one of them.  You can click HERE to view all the products to create this card.  You also want to check my link below.  Stampin up has amazing deals that have started today!  Don't miss out!

Christmas countdown

Published by under 2016

November is flying by way too fast… I've hardly had time to catch my breath. It's flu clinic season at work, my schedule is a little crazy. Different work schedule, busy week with the girls.  Speaking of girls, Jordan is doing her confirmation this weekend so we've been getting organized for her special event. Also one of my other two daughters has been having a rough week. First heart brake:( we've talked lots, and cried too. Being a nurse for all those years has thought me how important it is to have an open relationship with your children.  So many kids go through tough times and don't have a good relationship to talk with their parents…we even talked about why it didn't workout with her father and me… my heart was still broken to see her with so much pain. She did share with me that she would have told her best friend the exact same thing I told her.  Which relieved me a little bit.  We concluded that time would heal her pain… therefore, this week has gone by way too fast… my focus was my girls, work and while Chris is away for work, I still couldn't find time for myself. I'm taking a me day tomorrow, will stamp my little heart out… a early weekend 🙂

Read about my housekeeping events :

My good friend Jo-Ann and I are organizing a fabulous stamping event in Kanata, Ontario. I haven't had the time to share with you and it's already half booked. You might want to look at my link HERE! Invite your friends and family! This is going to be the  best occasions catalogue kick off!

They even have holiday supplies on sale!  If your holiday cards and tags are already done for this year, you might want to get products at an amazing deal for next year:)

I'd like to share below a close up of one of the cards for my fundraiser class. Do you know why I love stampinup products so much? It's not just about quality, it's about coordinating! It is impossible to create an ugly project! The accessories, colors coordinate with the ink, the cardstock! And the stamps are amazing! I cannot wait to add a little vintage to my holiday projects!  What's your favorite stampin up Product?

I love the mini jingle bells from the holiday catalogue! with linen thread, you can add them to any creative piece!

Well I'm off the go for a walk with my daughter, we need to do more chatting.  I want to make sure she is doing ok before she leaves to go to her father's house for the week. I'm wishing all of you a fabulous evening. xo

Giving back to my community

For those who know me personally, you know that I'm a public health nurse.  Since I've returned full time to work  a couple years ago, I travel out of town to work for the same agency but closer to Ottawa.  I continue doing the same work as when I was a nurse locally.  But I don't get to give as much to clients in my home town anymore.  There are different components to my job, but the one that I am most passionate about is my baby and family home visits.  I assess family's needs, it could be parenting, breastfeeding, financial struggles, you name it.  We do live in an area where poverty is on the high.  Eastern Ontario is high risk for many different reasons.  One of my tasks is to find different community resources to help family in needs.  Nothing breaks my heart more than when these families including children who have no money for food or clothing.  I do refer them to the local food banks and snow suit program.  But I know I can do more.

As I was commuting to work, I wondered, since I'm not working locally, how can I give back to my community?  Since it's the countdown for the holidays, why not host a Christmas card class where the proceeds could go to the local food bank and to buy snow suits for children in need.  The holidays are the perfect time for giving!!

So mark your calendar, on December 1st at 7 pm, I will be hosting a card class with cardholder.  Here is a sneak peek of the cards you will be making.

There are 3 different options:

Option A:  A goodie bag with a goodie bag 15$ of products, make 8 cards with holder and it includes envelops for 25$, a 10$ donation  will go to my community.

Option B:  includes option A plus the stamp set Hang your stocking also available in french for 57$, a 15$ donation will go to my community.  (pictures of the products are available at the end of this post)

Option C:  includes Option B plus the matching Christmas stocking thinlits for 99$, a 25$ donation will go to my community.  (pictures of the products are available at the end of this post)

Please bring adhesive and paper snips, don't have any ask me about my adhesive bundle.

Payments accepted are:  Credit card, ETM, paypal  (paypal link in right sidebar on my blog)

Can't make it, if you are canadian, ask me for my bundle to go.  Please sign me up for the bundle to go

This class is designed for beginners to expert stampers.

I thank you in advance for your support! xo

RSVP HERE.

One last request, please bring one non perishable item to the event…

In the picture below, you will find sneak peeks of the cards we will be making.

Washi tape AHA moment

So many samples from Stampin'up! products are posted on Pinterest.  I loved the idea of a tag class with the Mason Jar.  Something very similar was posted on Pinterest and it inspired me.  I love bling and embellishment and like to add my twist on things.   Lots of my customers don't know how to use the washi tape available in the catalogues.  So many opportunities exist.    As I was preparing my class, I had this aha moment, a light bulb went on in my brain.  THE WASHI TAPE fit perfectly around the lid… I was so excited.  It embellished the jar perfectly and coordinated with the colors used.

My mother in law brought me a bunch of mason jars on Thanksgiving.  With the proper embellishments, these make the perfect hostess or teachers gift for the holidays. If you want to make easy quick tags for the holidays, the merriest wishes stamp set and merry tags framelits dies is perfect. It's also available in as a bundle, you save an additional 10%.

For this tag, I used the pretty pines thinlits dies #141851.  To make my pines so shiny, I used the copper foil sheets available in the holiday catalogue #142020.  I'm hoping Stampin up brings these sheets in future catalogues.

If you haven't gotten the new in colors, you are missing out, the emerald envy is a perfect holiday color.  it also coordinates well with cherry cobbler. There's a ribbon bundle in the holiday catalogue , the 3/8" silky taffeta ribbon combo pack #141989.  It's 5 yards of cherry cobbler and 5 yards of emerald envy.

Jordan truly enjoyed our trip the the local bulk barn store, she took this opportunity to get her favorite candies.  If you don't want to put candies in the jars, the perfect option would be to add your favorite cookie recipe.  I made 6 different tag designs, but today I'm only sharing this one.  I've got so many projects on the go and can't wait to update you.

Below you will find the list of products and current sales that are happening for November.

Here is a cute card that opens up from the center.  I used Real read cardstock, candy cane lane designer series paper #141981,The cookie cutter christmas stamp set #142043 and coordinating cookie cutter builder punch #140396.  Buy the bundle and save 10% #143493.

Tip of the day:

The delicate white doilies #141701 coordinate very well with the layering circles framelits #141705.  First I glued on one side of the card my white doilie then added my real red and crumb cake cardstock cut with the layering circles framelit.  It fit perfectly inside, the doilie was the perfect embellishment to add to the card. Migraine sufferer?

Good morning!  Happy Thursday!  This morning I get to sit back, relax and sip on a cup of coffee.  The girls are with their father and Chris is out of town for work.  I'm flexing my day since I'm teaching prenatal classes this evening.  The house is so quiet.  Days like today make me realize how fast my daily pace is..  Life can get so crazy… A couple of weeks ago, I saw a neurologist for migraines "migraines that have been so intense these last past couple of months".  The doctor wants me to take daily medication to control them.  My response was, this doesn't currently affect my work, I mostly get them on weekends or on holidays.  His response was that I must have weekend migraines, "the saturday syndrome."   That I role on such a high pace all week that when I relax, they just hit me like I've been hit by a brick…  Working full time out of town, running around with the kids, working out less, I can go on…. must have an impact.

Here are 7 Tips to Avoid the Weekend Migraine Pattern:

  1. Get up at the same time on Saturday as you do Monday – Friday.  Sleeping an hour or two later can be a trigger.
  2. Keep stress levels somewhat steady all week, trying not to mentally, physically or emotionally strain yourself during the week and then completely chilling on the weekend.  Don’t rev your engine and then coast.
  3. Consume caffeine like a drug, or not at all.  Weaning yourself off caffeine isn’t easy, but can be done over time.  Just know that consuming your coffee two hours later, or not at all on Saturday, is a controllable migraine trigger.
  4. Eat some kind of breakfast.  Skipping a meal is a trigger.  On an ordinary Saturday, you should have a shake, fruit or oatmeal with your breakfast to boost hydration.  On a sports Saturday, eat a banana and sports drink before exercising to boost electrolyte levels
  5. Drink more water.  Drinking more water while exercising and after, to replenish fluid you’re losing.  You’d need half your weight in fluid ounces on an ordinary day, more when you’re exercising.
  6. Wear quality sunglasses to diminish the sun glare and block UV rays.
  7. Take a tepid instead of a hot shower.  And bring water into the shower, since hot water zaps moisture from your skin.

MA Takeaway:  Don’t snooze, or let a weekend migraine ruin another Saturday.  Keep your stress, sleep and caffeine habits as steady as possible and you’re less likely to spend the day in pain.

Finding ways to relax has been my goal more than ever.  I've been stamping lots, starting working out on my lunch hour again, trying really hard to drink plenty of water.  I've also learned to listen to my body and taking holidays when I feel I need it.  I've also been minimizing and purging my house.  Going back to simplicity…. I'm still a messy stamper…

Things I need to work on a little more, asking my kids to help out a little more around the house… I love them dearly but I think when they get here on my custody week, it's kind of holiday central…  Mostly by my own fault. I miss them dearly and try to compensate the week they are here.  There has been a couple of shopping trips for back to school, and activities are back in full swing.  We live in a small town we commute often to Ottawa or Montreal when we want specific things…

If you have migraine tips that work for you, please let me know.  I'd love to try them out…

This morning, I'd love to share one of my relaxing home crafting project from the weekend.   It really represents my style.  I was inspired with the monochromatic theme from my own decorating style at home.  My house is decorated with cream and soft sky palettes.  I love the simplicity and relaxing effect I get when I walk in from a busy day.

My card was created with the stamp set  Frosted Medallions #142189 (clear) and #142186 (wood) from the holiday catalogue. This stamp set is pretty versatile, you can very easily use it all year long.  It is also available in french for my french customers:)  I embossed the medallions.

step 1:  ink your medallion stamp with versamark #102283

step 2:  ink the same medallion in soft sky ink #131181

step 3:  stamp image on whisper white cardstock #100730

step 4:  add clear embossing powder and remove the excess #109130

step 5:  Heat with heating tool #129053

This is why the image above looks like a darker soft sky.

I then used the layering circles framelits #141705 for the whisper white cardstock and soft sky cardstock #131203 See the image below.

My very favorite product from the catalogue is the cable knit dynamic textured impressions embossing folder #143537.  You really really must get this product.  I've seen so many projects with it.  On my card it creates the perfect background accent.  You need a big shot #143263 for this.  If you don't have one, host a workshop/stamp party to get one at a discount or possibly free or get your starter kit and include it in your order.  Ask me how!

My embellishments include:  the fancy frost sequins #142519, the 3/8 glitter ribbon combo pack #142015 (comes in sugarplum and silver) and delicate white doilies #141701.  Here's a tip, to set your frost sequins, use the fine tip glue pen #138309.  I even used the tip of the glue pen to pick them up directly from the jar.

If you would like the frosted medallions card kit, email me.  It includes the stamp set as well.

Tags or cards

It was the perfect Saturday to do a marathon of stamping!  Cold rainy Saturday…  I had an amazing time creating.  My plan was to create cards, a stack of them.  But then I started liking what I was seeing.  The planned card design turned out to be an amazing tag as well.  I was torn between a card or a tag.

I must say if you want to minimize the stamping, this project is perfect.  Most of the design comes from the pretty pines thinlits dies #141851.  The coordinating stamp set is Christmas Pines #142049, it is available in french as well.  Christmas blessings comes from that stamp set.  It includes 22 photopolymer stamps.   If you wish to buy the stamp set and coordinating thinlits, the bundle saves you 10% off #143496.  I love my color combo used:  cherry cobbler, early expresso, very vanilla and garden green.  Perfect "christmassy" combo…  My background is the Holly textured impression embossing folder #141634. I also used the layering ovals framelits to create the tag #141706.  the Stampin up catalogue also has the circles #141705 and squares #141708.  They are the perfect layering framelits to create different shape and size tags.

My accessories included linen thread #104199, rhinestones #119246 and this christmas specialty designer series paper #141628

Please share your comments, do you prefer my project as tags or cards? I could not make a decision… Leave a comment and get the chance to receive this project…

If you would like to receive this card kit with the stamp set, please email me for more details. It could be mailed to your door…
