The new eclipse technique

Have you seen the new creative trend lately?  If you like to go on Pinterest, there are many samples for this new eclipse technique.  I loved the look and decided to try it out myself.  The demonstrators on my team that attended my monthly team meeting in September tried it as well.  They loved it.  I gave them a challenge to show me their versions and await their sample before we chose a winner!! The best card gets a prize!!!  I'll get my girls to pick out the winner since I'm sure the samples will all be amazing.  I am blessed with such talented, sweet demonstrators on my team.  Love to host those monthly meetings.  I anticipate for that monthly date night with these girls. If you would like to try the eclipse technique you can host a party with me or follow the steps below.  Here is a glimpse of the final product.  I used the hostess merry patterns stamp set that we have on promotion.  You can earn it for FREE too, just ask me for your hostess code and compile orders in September and October.   You can combine both months too:)  See the promotions details HERE.

Step 1

Stamp images on a piece of card stock.

I used cherry cobbler and old olive ink with the hostess stamp set Merry Patterns.

Step 2

Chose a word and place the Large letters framelits #141712 on your piece of stamped card stock.  Note you could do this technique with the large numbers framelits as well #140622.  The trick is that your letters need to be big to have an amazing affect.  The large letters in the annual catalogue are perfect for that.

Step 3

Pass your letters and card stock image in the big shot machine. Set aside the letters and adhere your card stock like the image below.

Step 4

This is an important step!  To have the best effect use the foam adhesive strips.  Those are thicker and will provide height to your letters.  If you use regular dimensionals, the letters won't have as much of the eclipse effect.

Step 5

Adhere the foam adhesive letters to the card, where they were cut out.  Shift them slightly to the right, just a "touch".  This creates that eclipse shadow.  And voila!  In my card below, I stamped the greeting "Merry Christmas" with the archival basic black ink.

I hope you enjoyed this new technique!   Don't forget to ask for your hostess code to earn this beautiful stamp set for FREE.  And if you shop with me, I have a VIP customer perk, you get to accumulate points for FREE products!!  Happy stamping!

Merry Mistletoe inspirations

I had so much fun creating the Merry Mistletoe class in August!  Challenging myself to use only products from the annual catalogue was so difficult.  I had my products from the holiday catalogue but they weren't available to you, the non demonstrators… Therefore, I couldn't offer a class  with the holiday catalogue products.  Fast forward to now!  I'm beyond excited to share with you some of my new creations.  Hang on to your hats!  I've moved my crafting spot in a new location in my home and  I have been working really hard at organizing it to my liking!  So far, I am very pleased.  I find myself more productive!  Sometimes a smaller space that is beyond organized can inspire in more than one way!  I feel like these past couple of weeks have been a lot about organizing.  Enough with that!  I want to play… 🙂

I would like to take this opportunity to advise you of more changes.  In the next couple of weeks, you might see my blog transforming.  You will also start seeing my name changing from Kim Assaly to Kim McGillis.  My wedding day is fast approaching and I'm changing my name:)  I realize that this is a lot of work for me and a change for you!  This has been a longtime waiting moment that I am very excited about!

I have repeated the Merry Mistletoe class over and over in August and early September.  All my customers loved it!  Did you try the paste yet?  I had this aha moment where I wanted glitter paste.  Therefore, I added a full jar of dazzling diamonds in my paste.  And voila! dazzling paste!  It's amazing!  I now have a full jar of dazzling paste available for all my Christmas projects.
The image below does not do justice!  You have to give it a try.

I have a special embossing paste bundle available for you, it includes:

1- Embossing Paste #141979

2- Palette knives #142808

3-  Pattern Party Decorative Masks #144103

4- And a surprise handmade project

** you can also add the dazzling diamonds to your bundle #133751

Countdown ’til Christmas

Are you getting ready for the holidays?  I've been fighting this sort of flu bug for the last couple of weeks.  Finally saw my Doctor on Monday, needed to start antibiotics because I was not getting any better.   I've been struggling with this respiratory infection since mid October… Being a nurse, I know I should know better, but I hate antibiotics and delayed it to the max.   Sadly was suffering badly and by Monday looked green when I got to work from my daily commute.. I'm hoping these pills start kicking in asap… Mornings are not so bad but by the afternoon a simple effort like a shower is very difficult and exhausting… So I apologize for not being on top of my game and creating as much.  I feel I should be in my studio creating as the holiday catalogue is coming to an end on January 3rd. Tomorrow, we get to find out what retires… and I still have not played with every product from this amazing catalogue…

I wanted to share today a simple card and tag combo… I'm in love, drooling over the detailed santa thinlits dies and greetings from santa stamp set.  These two products are available at a discounted price when purchased in a bundle. wood mount #143523 or clear mount #143524.  I also love the warmth & cheer designer series paper stack.  It comes 48 sheets double sided 6×6 paper stack.  It's adorable.   Another highlight is the merry medley background stamp set. It comes in clear or wood mount and for my french customers, it's also available in french.  In my photos, you will note the printed tin box, this is from the tin of tags project kit #142011.  You can make 30 tags with it's content.  I just thought it would be amazing to reuse the thin with or without the tags inside..  I added chocolates to my tin.  The full list of products is listed below but I wanted to highlight my favorite products in this card.

I also wanted to highlight an amazing new tool that I got in my last order. I'm in love with the fringe scissors #133325.  They make the perfect fringe, grass trim or even confetti if you cut criss-cross,

If you would like to join one of my clubs that start in January please email me.  3 clubs are available:  the card club, scrapbook club or project life club.  We meet once a month or you can get the stamps in the mail with instructions if you live to far and personalized video from me.

Giving back to my community

For those who know me personally, you know that I'm a public health nurse.  Since I've returned full time to work  a couple years ago, I travel out of town to work for the same agency but closer to Ottawa.  I continue doing the same work as when I was a nurse locally.  But I don't get to give as much to clients in my home town anymore.  There are different components to my job, but the one that I am most passionate about is my baby and family home visits.  I assess family's needs, it could be parenting, breastfeeding, financial struggles, you name it.  We do live in an area where poverty is on the high.  Eastern Ontario is high risk for many different reasons.  One of my tasks is to find different community resources to help family in needs.  Nothing breaks my heart more than when these families including children who have no money for food or clothing.  I do refer them to the local food banks and snow suit program.  But I know I can do more.

As I was commuting to work, I wondered, since I'm not working locally, how can I give back to my community?  Since it's the countdown for the holidays, why not host a Christmas card class where the proceeds could go to the local food bank and to buy snow suits for children in need.  The holidays are the perfect time for giving!!

So mark your calendar, on December 1st at 7 pm, I will be hosting a card class with cardholder.  Here is a sneak peek of the cards you will be making.

There are 3 different options:

Option A:  A goodie bag with a goodie bag 15$ of products, make 8 cards with holder and it includes envelops for 25$, a 10$ donation  will go to my community.

Option B:  includes option A plus the stamp set Hang your stocking also available in french for 57$, a 15$ donation will go to my community.  (pictures of the products are available at the end of this post)

Option C:  includes Option B plus the matching Christmas stocking thinlits for 99$, a 25$ donation will go to my community.  (pictures of the products are available at the end of this post)

Please bring adhesive and paper snips, don't have any ask me about my adhesive bundle.

Payments accepted are:  Credit card, ETM, paypal  (paypal link in right sidebar on my blog)

Can't make it, if you are canadian, ask me for my bundle to go.  Please sign me up for the bundle to go

This class is designed for beginners to expert stampers.

I thank you in advance for your support! xo

One last request, please bring one non perishable item to the event…

In the picture below, you will find sneak peeks of the cards we will be making.

Santa’s sleigh card

Who says we can't use a basic black and very vanilla for the holidays? I love non tradition Christmas colors! I'm still on a high from the onstage event that stampinup hosted in Ottawa for Eastern Canada demonstrators… it was fabulous to connect with old demonstrators and new ones as well. It was really exciting to see ladies from my team attend their first stampinup event. Until you attend an event, you can't understand  how special the entire experience is. How the company cares for their demos, how recognition is important and yes how spoiled we are.  Some demonstrators join for the discount.  Because the products are so amazing, colors coordinate, the quality of product is beyond expectations.  Others join for extra income.  Like one of my downline who explained to me  that her stampin up events are helping to pay for  her child's medical treatments and the treatments are working.  A demonstrator's WHY can be very different.  If you are loving stampin up and would love to join my team, I would love to learn your WHY and help you achieve your goals even if it's as simple as getting the discount…  You can contact me or view details HERE.

Below is the card I created for my swap. I got to share and create a bunch of these cards in exchange for other cards made by other demonstrators. I packed for work a bunch of products and came up with the card below.  On my lunch break, I created this beauty.  It's simple and anybody can case it.  It's the perfect card to make duplicates especially for your family and friends holiday cards.

For this card I used the very vanilla #101650  and basic black card stock #121045. I inked up with the archival basic black ink #140931. This ink pad is a must if you don't already have it. It stamps the perfect black color, no purple tinge… and it's permanent ink, perfect for use with watercolouring techniques.   I also used This Christmas Specialty designer series paper #141628 from our annual catalogue. P.172. Yes the annual catalogue contains holiday products as well!  You don't want to miss out.  The package contains 24 sheets.   Imagine how many cards you can create with a large package like this.   My reindeer is from the santa's sleigh thinlits dies #140278,  this one has a coordinating stamp set called santa's sleigh #142057.  If you purchase the stamp set and dies you save 10% for the bundle #143499.  it's one of my favourite bundle from the holiday catalogue.  I embellished with the mini jingle bells  #142002.  You get 60 in a package.  and used my fav. linen thread to tie my bell #104199.  My stars and greetings come from the stamp set Star of light #142110.  This set contains 21 photopolymer stamps and has many greetings.

Here is another version:

Tip of the day:

The delicate white doilies #141701 coordinate very well with the layering circles framelits #141705.  First I glued on one side of the card my white doilie then added my real red and crumb cake cardstock cut with the layering circles framelit.  It fit perfectly inside, the doilie was the perfect embellishment to add to the card. Migraine sufferer?

Good morning!  Happy Thursday!  This morning I get to sit back, relax and sip on a cup of coffee.  The girls are with their father and Chris is out of town for work.  I'm flexing my day since I'm teaching prenatal classes this evening.  The house is so quiet.  Days like today make me realize how fast my daily pace is..  Life can get so crazy… A couple of weeks ago, I saw a neurologist for migraines "migraines that have been so intense these last past couple of months".  The doctor wants me to take daily medication to control them.  My response was, this doesn't currently affect my work, I mostly get them on weekends or on holidays.  His response was that I must have weekend migraines, "the saturday syndrome."   That I role on such a high pace all week that when I relax, they just hit me like I've been hit by a brick…  Working full time out of town, running around with the kids, working out less, I can go on…. must have an impact.

Here are 7 Tips to Avoid the Weekend Migraine Pattern:

  1. Get up at the same time on Saturday as you do Monday – Friday.  Sleeping an hour or two later can be a trigger.
  2. Keep stress levels somewhat steady all week, trying not to mentally, physically or emotionally strain yourself during the week and then completely chilling on the weekend.  Don’t rev your engine and then coast.
  3. Consume caffeine like a drug, or not at all.  Weaning yourself off caffeine isn’t easy, but can be done over time.  Just know that consuming your coffee two hours later, or not at all on Saturday, is a controllable migraine trigger.
  4. Eat some kind of breakfast.  Skipping a meal is a trigger.  On an ordinary Saturday, you should have a shake, fruit or oatmeal with your breakfast to boost hydration.  On a sports Saturday, eat a banana and sports drink before exercising to boost electrolyte levels
  5. Drink more water.  Drinking more water while exercising and after, to replenish fluid you’re losing.  You’d need half your weight in fluid ounces on an ordinary day, more when you’re exercising.
  6. Wear quality sunglasses to diminish the sun glare and block UV rays.
  7. Take a tepid instead of a hot shower.  And bring water into the shower, since hot water zaps moisture from your skin.

MA Takeaway:  Don’t snooze, or let a weekend migraine ruin another Saturday.  Keep your stress, sleep and caffeine habits as steady as possible and you’re less likely to spend the day in pain.

Finding ways to relax has been my goal more than ever.  I've been stamping lots, starting working out on my lunch hour again, trying really hard to drink plenty of water.  I've also learned to listen to my body and taking holidays when I feel I need it.  I've also been minimizing and purging my house.  Going back to simplicity…. I'm still a messy stamper…

Things I need to work on a little more, asking my kids to help out a little more around the house… I love them dearly but I think when they get here on my custody week, it's kind of holiday central…  Mostly by my own fault. I miss them dearly and try to compensate the week they are here.  There has been a couple of shopping trips for back to school, and activities are back in full swing.  We live in a small town we commute often to Ottawa or Montreal when we want specific things…

If you have migraine tips that work for you, please let me know.  I'd love to try them out…

This morning, I'd love to share one of my relaxing home crafting project from the weekend.   It really represents my style.  I was inspired with the monochromatic theme from my own decorating style at home.  My house is decorated with cream and soft sky palettes.  I love the simplicity and relaxing effect I get when I walk in from a busy day.

My card was created with the stamp set  Frosted Medallions #142189 (clear) and #142186 (wood) from the holiday catalogue. This stamp set is pretty versatile, you can very easily use it all year long.  It is also available in french for my french customers:)  I embossed the medallions.

step 1:  ink your medallion stamp with versamark #102283

step 2:  ink the same medallion in soft sky ink #131181

step 3:  stamp image on whisper white cardstock #100730

step 4:  add clear embossing powder and remove the excess #109130

step 5:  Heat with heating tool #129053

This is why the image above looks like a darker soft sky.

I then used the layering circles framelits #141705 for the whisper white cardstock and soft sky cardstock #131203 See the image below.

My very favorite product from the catalogue is the cable knit dynamic textured impressions embossing folder #143537.  You really really must get this product.  I've seen so many projects with it.  On my card it creates the perfect background accent.  You need a big shot #143263 for this.  If you don't have one, host a workshop/stamp party to get one at a discount or possibly free or get your starter kit and include it in your order.  Ask me how!

My embellishments include:  the fancy frost sequins #142519, the 3/8 glitter ribbon combo pack #142015 (comes in sugarplum and silver) and delicate white doilies #141701.  Here's a tip, to set your frost sequins, use the fine tip glue pen #138309.  I even used the tip of the glue pen to pick them up directly from the jar.

If you would like the frosted medallions card kit, email me.  It includes the stamp set as well.

Tags or cards

It was the perfect Saturday to do a marathon of stamping!  Cold rainy Saturday…  I had an amazing time creating.  My plan was to create cards, a stack of them.  But then I started liking what I was seeing.  The planned card design turned out to be an amazing tag as well.  I was torn between a card or a tag.

I must say if you want to minimize the stamping, this project is perfect.  Most of the design comes from the pretty pines thinlits dies #141851.  The coordinating stamp set is Christmas Pines #142049, it is available in french as well.  Christmas blessings comes from that stamp set.  It includes 22 photopolymer stamps.   If you wish to buy the stamp set and coordinating thinlits, the bundle saves you 10% off #143496.  I love my color combo used:  cherry cobbler, early expresso, very vanilla and garden green.  Perfect "christmassy" combo…  My background is the Holly textured impression embossing folder #141634. I also used the layering ovals framelits to create the tag #141706.  the Stampin up catalogue also has the circles #141705 and squares #141708.  They are the perfect layering framelits to create different shape and size tags.

My accessories included linen thread #104199, rhinestones #119246 and this christmas specialty designer series paper #141628

Please share your comments, do you prefer my project as tags or cards? I could not make a decision… Leave a comment and get the chance to receive this project…

If you would like to receive this card kit with the stamp set, please email me for more details. It could be mailed to your door…
